New low-cost, enterprise-class storage for SMBs
A new enterprise-class storage product, positioned as less expensive and easier to use than traditional enterprise offerings, has been released by Duxbury Networking.
The Netgear ReadyData 5200 is targeted at small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs) and provides entry-level functionality together with the flexibility needed to scale to meet future needs, says Armand Steffens, business development manager at Duxbury Networking.
“With data volumes growing faster than ever before, the need to find more efficient ways to store and manage data is crucial,” he says. “The modular design of the ReadyData provides users with investment protection, enabling them to make incremental investments as time, resources and budget permit.”
Steffens says the unit scales to 180 terrabytes capacity with up to 60 drives. It is able to efficiently manage rampant data growth with technologies which include de-duplication and compression while facilitating the design of simple, cost-effective disaster recovery plans with free block-level replication.
“ReadyData 5200 is the first product of its kind to include data replication as a standard feature,” he notes. “It allows users to leverage thin provisioning in virtual environments, replicate files and databases to offsite locations and recover data from unlimited point-in-time snapshots – all with a few mouse clicks.”
He says every ReadyData 5200 includes cloud-managed replication functionality, ensuring high-performance disaster recovery without the need for additional software, servers or network configuration procedures.
“Now Netgear customers and partners can avoid complex licensing, expensive installation specialists and incremental maintenance agreements – as well as the high prices associated with traditional ‘big IT’ offerings,” adds Steffens.
ReadyData 5200 systems include a full set of datacentre-class storage capabilities including compression and de-duplication of block (storage area network) and file (network-attached storage) data as well as replication over 128-bit SSL (single socket layer) connections.
Additionally, the ReadyData 5200 features two 10Gb Ethernet ports and mixed configurations of SATA, SAS and SSD drives.
